Who We Are

The Beneficial Electrification League (BEL) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 2018 that works to facilitate electrification, when it is beneficial, by promoting understanding among key stakeholders, championing necessary grid infrastructure, and developing actionable resources to accelerate implementation. We envision a future where electrification is broadly implemented, when beneficial, to support economic development, meet consumer needs, and achieve environmental goals. BEL unites a diverse coalition of organizations committed to making beneficial electrification a core strategy for addressing today’s energy, environmental, and economic challenges.

The term beneficial electrification began as just a concept, where it served as a theoretical framework for evaluating the strategic use of electricity to achieve economic, environmental, and societal benefits. Since then, the term has gained widespread acceptance across the energy sector in an evolution driven in large part by the efforts of the BEL, which has played a central role in advancing the concept through stakeholder engagement, applied research, and the development of practical implementation resources.
